The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization says the U tolth fish farmers worldwide are making a huge loss to the world’s oceans by producing fishmeal for livestock feed, which has been blamed for a rise in disease.
“The loss to fisheries of over a billion tonnes of fishmeal annually from this sector represents a substantial fraction of global fisheries output,” the organization said in a new report, released Tuesday.
The report noted that the fishmeal market is dominated by small producers and is estimated to reach $14 billion in the U, compared with the $13.7 billion that goes to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).
